Lac du Flambeau Holds Community Networking Expo Submitted: 03/28/2012
Lac du Flambeau - Today marked the first ever community expo in Lac du Flambeau, where the tribe opened it's doors for a community-wide networking event.

The expo was called Wiijii'idiwin, which means "We are all doing this together".

The event sought to bringing together members of the tribe and surrounding community to foster new partnerships. They also wanted to spotlight healthy relationships between adults and the area's youth. First the tribe recognized some of it's younger members for their dedication to community service, hoping to inspire the next generation to follow the same positive path.

"If we show them the opportunity, and have some of our parents and great mentors, I think what we're trying to get after is generational mentoring... The opportunities are great here, [our goal is] to remind them of that. The opportunity is here, to be successful," says event coordinator Ruben Santiesteban.

Also showcased were opportunities for employment, services available in the community, and education.

"We have adult education, community education, adult basic literacy all the way to bachelor degree coursework- in our building. Courses are open to anyone in Lac du Flambeau, actually all of Vilas County," says Lac du Flambeau Education Director, Joni Theobald.

The tribe hopes bringing the community together will create positive ties, and growth for all of Lac du Flambeau.
