- The Conover Fire Department spent its weekend making a little boy's dream come true.
The fire crew held a car wash and bake sale Sunday to raise money for two-and-a-half-year-old Brayden Matter. Brayden suffers from a virus called Cytomegalovirus, or CMV.
"It attacks his immune system; he has almost no immune system. They only gave him about six more months to live. He's two and a half years old. The goal today is to send him to Disney World. That's what we're trying to do; we're trying to get about $5,000 to send him to Disney World," says Chad Lederer, a Captain at the Conover Fire Department.
The crew and other volunteers washed cars and sold baked goods all day. By the afternoon they'd already washed about 150 cars.
This experience has made the fire department want to keep giving. They want to make it a tradition to pick one kid from Wisconsin every year that needs help, and do the benefit all over again.
If you'd like to donate to Brayden's trip to Disney World you can send a check payable to the Conover Fire Department with Braydon Fundraiser in the memo and mail to: Conover Fire Department PO Box 14, Conover, WI 54519
