MERRILL - The Merrill Blue Jays hosted the Pacelli Cardinals in a non-conference showdown.

There was nothing but defense early.

Pacelli circling the Merrill goal in the first period.

They penetrate and shoot, but Merrill goalie Bryce Broeking says thanks but no thanks.

Cardinals try it again, but the Blue Jay's Kyle Kleinschmidt puts the stick down to block it.

Great team defense there.

Pacelli here again on the offensive.
Davis Cowden knifing through the defense.

He'll try the shot, but Broeking again drops the hammer.

No goal for the Cardinals, and the Blue Jays come flying back.

Dylan Heller with a full head of steam.

He'll slam on the brakes and take a shot, but this time it's the Pacelli goalie stuffing the puck.

Still 0-0.

Here's Merrill again.

Bryce Swiechowski takes his turn.

It's no good but Michael Baumann has a chance with the rebound.

Still no score.

A great defensive battle in this one early, but Pacelli takes it 4-1 in the end.

TOMAHAWK - There was yet another GNC battle in Tomahawk Friday night.

The Hatchets hosted the Medford Raiders.

Justin Jarvensivu comes up with the strip in the fourth quarter.

He bodies up against a Raider defender and uses the left hand to finish at the rim to finish the great play.

Medford's next possession, Nikola Babic gives to Trent Klemm.

A perfect give-and-go gets Medford the bucket.

Medford comes back with it again.

This time it's Tomahawk's Jordan Shilts picking the pocket.

He's flying down, and he uses the pump fake to shake off the defender, and gets the pretty finish.

Unfortunately for the Hatchets, Medford was a couple steps ahead of them, and the Raiders peel away with a 47-36 win.

MINOCQUA - A Lakeland Union High School Nordic skier will head to Sweden to compete in the Nations Cup.

Seventeen year-old Mack FitzPatrick will be a part of the United States under-18 team.

FitzPatrick treats Nordic skiing as not only a year-round sport but a lifetime sport.

"Pretty much been skiing my entire life," FitzPatrick said. "I've been on the Lakeland ski team all throughout high school and middle school teams. It's been a part of my life."

He trains hard outside of ski season.

THREE LAKES - The Three Lakes football team will look a little different starting in the fall.

That's because they will be playing with 11 players instead of eight.

The school board unanimously approved the decision last week.

The change will put Three Lakes back into the Northern Lakes Conference, which means the Bluejays won't have to travel out of the way just to play football.

They will get to play more local teams like Crandon and Wabeno-Laona.
