- A lot has changed since the last time the Laona/Wabeno boys basketball team lost a conference game.
Their last loss came in February 2014.
That was before Aaron Rodgers won his second MVP trophy.
Melvin Gordon was still a Wisconsin Badger, Rickie Weeks still played for the Brewers.
"They've all bought into the program, which has led to the success of our program," said Head coach Mike Chrisman.
It's been almost three years since the Rebels lost a game in the Northern Lakes Conference.
It's a winning streak that has now stretched more than 30 straight games, but that constant success doesn't come without challenges.
"It's really hard because you know coming into every game, you're coming in with a target on your back.
Everybody is trying to beat you. You're the big dog in the conference," said Wabeno senior, Cooper Chrisman.
Mike Chrisman says a key to keeping his team on track is to stay sharp mentally.
"You got to keep the guys humble a little bit, that has a lot to do with our summer program. We go way down south and play a lot of teams down south that keep us humbled," said Chrisman.
But playing those larger schools in the offseason isn't the only way the Rebels keep their intensity.
"Playing in practice like it's a game. We set up a lot of situations where like we're down one, stuff like that, acting like every practice is a game," said Cooper Chrisman.
While some teams may feel pressure with the long win streak, Mike Chrisman says his team has embraced the success.
"They were picked to take second this year by Wisconsin yearbook and boy they took that to heart, especially after going undefeated the last two years," said Chrisman. "When reading that they weren't too happy."
The Rebels are off to a 6-0 start this season, but completing another conference schedule without a loss is not their only goal.
"We got beat in the regional finals two years in a row, and that kind of burns us a little bit. (We want to) go to the next step and actually win one here," said Laona senior, Kyle Tinsman.
The Rebels next conference game is Thursday at White Lake.
