- The Chequamegon Screaming Eagles football team made the playoffs last year, but their team looks very different from last year's.
The team had 13 seniors graduate.
That means many of the returning players haven't gotten a lot of playing time, but coaches say their philosophy hasn't changed.
"Our program is founded on three words, and that's 'Expect to Win,'" says Head Coach Scott Herbst. "We have a sign that says it, we carry it everywhere we go, and our expectations are that and our number one goal will always be playoffs."
Chequamegon opened their schedule last week with a tough conference matchup against Edgar.
They lost 46-0, but coaches say that's just the way they like it.
"Some people say 'boy, it would be nice to open up against somebody else,' but for me, I'd rather open up against Edgar," says Herbst. "I really would. It gives you a really good gauge right away, and it gets it out of the way so you can focus on the rest of your schedule."
The Screaming Eagles will play Rib Lake/Prentice this Friday night.
