An affordable Northwoods ski clinic taught people of all ages how to cross country ski SaturdaySubmitted: 02/28/2015
RHINELANDER - The ski clinic was held this morning. It only cost $10.

The class was sponsored by Mel's Trading Post and the School District of Rhinelander Community Education Program

This is the second year they've held the class. More than 20 went this year.

"They're learning some," said ski instructor Shane Tulowitzky. "We're moving onto the hills section a little bit to talk about how to snowplow, how to get back up hills. So we're just right now working on balance."

Organizers want to give people a healthy way to enjoy the Northwoods during the long winters.

"This week there's really no racing going on, but every other weekend throughout the winter there's ski racing going on in Northern Wisconsin, Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula, so there's a lot to do," said Tulowitzky.

Many people think of cross country skiing as a lifetime sport. Organizers hope to get people started with the sport at a young age.

WAUSAU - A 13-year-old boy has died after he was stabbed during a fight in Wausau that may have been prompted by a dispute on social media.

Wausau police say the stabbing happened Friday after several Wausau high school and middle school students who claim to be gang members had been arguing on Facebook during the day. The Facebook messages indicated that several of the students planned on fighting.
