- Not many "made from scratch" bakeries exist in the Northwoods.
But, the ones that do are busy preparing treats for Thanksgiving tomorrow.
"We make plenty of holiday favorites. Pies, and rolls, and things like that. We make a bread bowl assortment of rolls. All the rolls are edible and the bowl is edible as well. We make cranberry walnut bread and cranberry walnut artisan bread," said David Weber from the St. Germain Bake Shoppe.
Besides unique breads, the bakery also bakes pumpkin pies, apple pies, donuts, and more.
"There are a lot of delicious desserts that maybe aren't found on the traditional American Thanksgiving table. As long as you have the traditional favorites than anything else should just be a plus," said Weber.
The bakers begin working at 1 a.m. to make sure all the treats will be ready for the day.
"It is something that has become a little bit of a rarity. That is something that just isn't done anymore. The bakers bake through the night so that people can enjoy the fantastic sweets in the morning. There is a lot of math and skill involved. It is always amazing to watch them at work," said Weber.
The St. Germain Bake Shoppe is closed for Thanksgiving.
They'll reopen Friday morning at 6 a.m.
