- With one of the coldest days of the season so far, most people probably chose to stay inside Wednesday.
But for people in Antigo it was the perfect day to get outside and cook up some chili.
Antigo held its annual chili cook-off.
"The weather will never stop us," said Matthew Paulson, who was cooking chili for Waukesha Bearings.
A high of 20 degrees couldn't keep cooks off the streets of Antigo.
"It always seems the chili cook off is on the coldest day of year," said Becki Kassis. This was her third year making chili at the Chili Cook Off.
More than 40 organizations and business set up booths and braved the cold to see if their chili was good enough to take home the prize.
Everyone had their own way to separated themselves from the others. Some, people had their secret ingredients.
"Special seasonings, that's all I'm going to tell you," said Kassis laughing.
Other broke away from the traditional red chili.
"We make the best white chicken chili ever," said Ashley Dieck from Fantastic Sams.
Paulson especially doesn't want to give away any secrets. Waukesha Bearings has taken first the last two years.
"We're hoping to get another win. I believe if we get this win we become the winningest team in Antigo," said Paulson.
And he was right not to give anything away. Waukesha Bearing took home first again for their "Redneck Chili".
But first place or not, everyone's excited to kick off the holiday season.
"Seeing the parade, seeing clients of ours, seeing people, all our coworkers come together to do something fun. They shut the salon down. They serve the chili since we cooked it all day, all the people, it's so fun," said Dieck.
