Crescent Town Fire Department fundraising for new pavilion, community areaSubmitted: 12/05/2016
RHINELANDER - The Crescent Fire Department spent years trying to find a good place for a town pavilion.  It turns out the best spot was right in its own back yard.

The department plans to build that pavilion right behind the Crescent Town Hall off Golf Course Road just west of Rhinelander.  The town board swapped land with a homeowner to get several acres of wooded property.

Fire department members cleared and leveled a big portion of that land a few weeks ago.

"The amount of support and everything that we had just for doing the clearing and everything we have now is just tremendous," Assistant Fire Chief Keven Mahner said. "A lot of people are very excited about this."

Volunteers will donate their time and expertise, but the department needs to fundraise about $20,000 for the pavilion materials and a concrete base.

Mahner thinks the pavilion would bring people from all over the area together.

"Different people come over to our township, see what we're doing, learn things, and it's vice-versa," Mahner said. "It's a big networking group."

The Crescent Fire Department hopes to break ground on the pavilion next spring.

If you would like to donate money to the efforts, you can call Carla at 715-282-5294. The fire department is also selling wood from the timber it cut down for $25 per truckload. You can contact Mahner for more info at 715-550-0319.
