WAUSAU AND STEVENS POINT - In the United States, only 10 percent of people who go through sudden cardiac arrest survive, but two local fire departments are trying to change that in northcentral Wisconsin.

The Wausau and Stevens Point Fire Departments are holding a friendly competition to see who can train the most people on how to administer CPR.

LINCOLN COUNTY - A town near Merrill, Harding, hopes the public can help solve a series of crimes.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's department is looking for the person taking signs in the town of Harding.

"A suspect has been traveling through the town of Harding and has been stealing road signs,"Lincoln County Sheriff's Department Lt. Jim Fischer said. "Whether it was road indication signs or stop signs."

The town of Harding has had signs vandalized or stolen before. But the town's supervisor Donald Graap says not this many in such a short period of time.

"Usually it's just one or two signs they take," Graap said. "This time it was 13 to 14 and some from the county."

If a crash happens because of a missing sign, the person who took the sign will be held responsible.

"If there was property crash or injury crash and that person could be tied to the theft of that crime they could be found civilly liable for any damages be it injury or property," said Fischer.

MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for fatally beating his father last year.

Forty-one-year-old John Edward Balistreri blamed his 77-year-old father for his mother's death 25 years earlier.

PRICE COUNTY - By the late 1980s, the U.S. Forest Service knew it needed a new bridge to span the South Fork of the Flambeau River in Price County. The old bridge in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, built in 1955, was taking a pounding from travelers, school buses, and heavy logging trucks.

In 1991, that new bridge was finished.
