- Logging history in Laona goes back more than a century.
The community's bank has been serving customers nearly as long.
Laona State Bank celebrated 100 years in business on Thursday.
Community banks like theirs rely on close bonds with customers to stay in business.
"If you service the customers properly, they'll stay with you and be loyal to you, and we sure have good customers. We have good employees that take care of them," Laona State Bank President Dick Popp said.
The President of the Wisconsin Bankers Association recognized Laona State Bank for its work on Thursday.
She puts a high value on the work of community banks.
"Without question, community banks are the heart and soul of their local towns. They are the economic drivers of their local towns. They're here to help truly American dreams come true," said the Wisconsin Bankers Association President, Rose Oswald Poels.
In the last 20 years, Laona State Bank has expanded from one branch to seven branches in five communities.
