Oneida County approves $50,000 advance for Northwoods Transit ConnectionsSubmitted: 01/19/2017
ONEIDA COUNTY - The Northwoods Transit Connections gave more than 2,000 rides to people last month.

That's a big jump for the Oneida and Vilas county bus service.

The bus service has gone from two buses to five to try and keep up with demand.

Transit manager Jim Altenburg asks for patience.

"We have had some growing pains therefore we have had times when we haven't been able to put out as much service as we like because we're getting overloaded when you're getting 200-300 phone calls in an office a day, sometimes we make a mistake," said Altenburg.

Northwoods Transit Connections needs more equipment to help meet the needs of the community.

Until then, it's working with it has.

To help, Oneida County recently approved a $50,000 advance.

"It is an emergency fund. That really just makes life a little easier to breathe," said Altenburg. "We really don't have any intention of every using it, but if we needed to it's there, if the check doesn't come in the mail like it's suppose to."

Altenburg expects the number of rides to increase about another thousand a month.
