No call List Submitted: 11/28/2009
- Monday is the last day for Wisconsinresidents to sign up for the list that bans telemarketing callsthat goes into effect Jan. 1.

The no-call list was started in 2003 and bans telemarketingphone calls, but not calls from nonprofit groups, elected officialsand candidates for office.

The state Department of Agriculture, Trade and ConsumerProtection says anyone who signs up after Monday won't be on thelist until April 1.

The Wisconsin State Journal reported that consumers must sign upevery two years to stay on the list.

Spurgeon Returns Submitted: 11/27/2009

CONOVER - One of the soldiers from the 951st who was injured in Afghanistan got to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with his family, but will have to make his trip home a brief one.

Sergeant First Class Scott Spurgeon of Conover was injured in the same attack that took the life of fellow soldier Ryan Adams on October first.

Sergeant Spurgeon received injuries to his left eye and left leg following the grenade attack in the Logar Province of Afghanistan.

BOULDER JUNCTION - Two people are taken to the hospital after a two vehicle accident in Boulder Junction.

The Vilas County Sheriff's Department says the accident happened on County Highway M at County Highway N on Thursday.

Officials say a 42-year-old Boulder Junction woman pulled in front of a 40-year-old Presque Isle man.

Christmas Tree Lighting Submitted: 11/27/2009

RHINELANDER - Christmas is about a month away, but one Northwoods city is already getting people into the Christmas spirit.

About a 100 people showed up at Stevensport Square in Rhinelander Friday night to see the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and the Santa Parade.

Rhinelander Mayor Dick Johns kicked off the festivities by flipping the switch to light the hundreds of lights on this enormous tree.

Black Friday Shopping Submitted: 11/27/2009

- Today is Black Friday and as always, the day after Thanksgiving when stores debut their holiday deals. Everyone was looking for that special gift.

"Whatever we can find, it's basically impulse shopping." Black Friday shopper Lisa Heder from West Bend has family in Lake Tomahawk. She says she enjoys shopping in Minocqua. "Being in the Northwoods, and you kind of see things you don't normally see."

Free Thanksgiving Dinner Submitted: 11/26/2009

CRANDON - A local church helped some people in one Northwoods community in a big way this Thanksgiving.

For Tootsie Ducat paying for Thanksgiving dinner this year would've been tough.

Tootsie Ducat, Attended Free Thanksgiving Dinner, says, "I'm just thinking about how I am going to make ends meet and stuff and right now my youngest son, he kind of helps me out a little bit now and then."
