Antigo transforms gymnastics program into one of the best in the stateSubmitted: 03/05/2015

ANTIGO - The Antigo Gymnastics program made an impressive turnaround during the past two decades.

The team will continue its impressive streak this weekend in Wisconsin Rapids.
Julie Langseth took over the team 23 years ago. The Red Robins didn't win a conference meet until three years later. Langseth says the program was lacking something important.

"Coming into the program we didn't have much of a feeder program," said Langseth.
Langseth built a strong club program in Antigo by her fifth year. The program continued to develop and in 2008 the Red Robins won a state title. Now Antigo has a strong gymnastics culture.

"I guess it was really inspiring because you want to be as good as people who were here previous to you so it's kind of like expected of you," said Junior Tyler Tatro.

Antigo is headed back to state for the 12th time in a row without a single senior. That hasn't happened since the streak started back in 2003.

"We had to figure out how we were going to creatively get those requirements and then and go forward, clean it up, and execute," said Langseth.

"Amazing to achieve a goal especially when people are thinking they may not I'm sure people had doubts," said Tatro.

"Were really proud of ourselves and for the 12th year in a row, I think it's a pretty big accomplishment," said Junior Alli McCann.

The underclassmen played an important role in continuing the streak.

"We were kind of like, 'we just have to fill in the spots of the seniors,' Sophomore Kim Swan said. "We just stepped up as well and took the role of it."

When a team returns everyone, the future is bright.

"If we can make it to state with no seniors and knowing that we will have the same exact team next year and we have all summer to practice is a great feeling," said Tatro.
