MEDFORD - Two rounds into the high school football playoffs...and only a few teams from the area are still standing, but only one will get to play at home in level three: the Medford Raiders.
Medford beat two conference opponents to get this far.
Now, they're only two wins away from being a state qualifier.
Last week, they caught some good fortune.
#1 Rice Lake fell to New Richmond at home.
That means the Raiders get to stay in Medford for level three.
"It's always nice to play at home and not have to travel," says Head Coach Ted Wilson. "New Richmond's about a two hour ride, so while we're used to traveling like that, it's always better to be at home, and have your home crowd. It's nice. New Richmond's a very good team. It's not like playing Rice Lake makes it any…less hard."
The team never expected to tie for the Great Northern Conference title.
Players say it's rewarding to be playing so late in the season.
"It's amazing," says Senior Lineman Garett Storch. "We never expected it at all. We were predicted to be second last in the conference, so to be this far, it's something else."
If they win Friday, they'll be one of four teams left in the Division 3 playoff.
