US Supreme Court vacancy becoming issue in Wisconsin race Submitted: 02/25/2016
MADISON - The question over whether a vacancy should be filled this year on the U.S. Supreme Court is becoming an issue in the nonpartisan race for Wisconsin's Supreme Court.

Democrats want President Obama to nominate someone now, while Republicans say it should wait until the next president.

Incumbent Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley says the president has the prerogative to take action, and the Senate can vote on it or not. But Bradley also says she is not taking a position on "political issues like that."

Her challenger state Appeals Court Judge JoAnne Kloppenburg says the Constitution "is clear about the process for filling vacancies on the U.S. Supreme Court."

A Marquette University Law School poll released Thursday showed the race between Bradley and Kloppenburg to be a dead heat.
