TOWN OF PELICAN
- It can be difficult to throw a fundraiser. That's why community members combined two causes into one event Sunday. The town of Pelican Community Club hosted a picnic behind the Pelican Fire Department. They wanted to raise money for both the fire department and Kids In Need Program. A representative for the program says the money raised today will help them get supplies for the kids in their program.
"We channel it all back into things we can do for the kids. Sometimes it might be something as simple as getting a pair of shoes for the kid," said Kids In Need member Robert Klitzka. "We take that money and we invest it in our kids." The representative thinks people sometimes get the wrong idea of what the organization does. The group offers more opportunities to a lot of different kids. "It's not for needy kids; it's for any kids 11 to 17. We offer the recreation room. All our services are free, but we also offer it to any kid between that age," Klitzka said. The money raised today will be split in half and will go to both the fire department and the program.
