Packers energy high as preseason opener approaches Submitted: 07/31/2014
GREEN BAY - It's time to mark those calendars because we are less than two weeks away from the first Packers preseason game. Training camp is in full swing, and the energy around the team is ramping up as players fight for their jobs.

"We have to get after each other," says defensive lineman Mike Daniels. "We have to get physical with each other. We have to play overly hard against each other in practice because when the game time comes, instead of us versus us, it's us versus them. And we only know one speed, and that's go hard." There's confidence in the air at Ray Nitschke Field. Players like Daniels have been exuding it all week long. It's giving everyone dressed in Green and Gold a comfort level that some haven't felt before. "I'm a lot more comfortable because I know everything," says running back and reigning offensive rookie of the year Eddie Lacy. "I don't have to think about it too much. I can hear the play call and just go out and execute what I have to do, so I'm a lot more comfortable now." "I'm definitely enjoying this [training camp] a lot more," says defensive back Micah Hyde. "Last year was a little more stressful, waking up a little bit earlier to lift, so it's long days, but this one I have a lot more friends, and I can actually talk to people, so it's definitely a lot smoother training camp right now." The Pack has had more than its fair share of injuries over the last few seasons. But most everyone is back healthy, giving Green Bay one of its deepest rosters in years. "We're feeling pretty good," says guard Josh Sitton. "Almost too good, like something bad is going to happen. No, we feel great." It's all about positivity, talent, and confidence and those are things the Packers have in spades. "I think it's definitely taking a step in the right direction, the direction that it needed to go," says Daniels. "I really am pleased with what I'm seeing. Everybody is getting after each other pretty good. The offense is doing a great job, and those guys are ready to practice. And it's the same on the defensive side of the ball. You see a lot of energy, you hear a lot of words being thrown but that's what you want. You want guys bringing their all every day." The Packers are preparing to travel to Tennessee next weekend for their preseason opener against the Titans. If you can't wait until next week for football, don't forget the Packers are holding their Family Night Scrimmage Saturday.
