- The Merrill Police Department wants you to keep your car doors locked. That's because a number of cars were broken into this weekend. There were also a few attempted burglaries. All of the break ins happened in the neighborhoods north and east of the middle school in Merrill. The Merrill Police Chief says this isn't unusual for this time of the year.
"When the weather is nicer, people are out later and we sometimes see an increase in car entries. Someone will go into an open car and look for a certain item, maybe steal some valuables," said Merrill Police Chief Ken Neff. There are a few things you can do to protect your belongings. The best way to prevent a break in is to lock your car and keep valuables out of sight."Don't keep any valuables in your car. Remove any valuables. If you do have something in your car, put it in the trunk or something so it's not visible from the outside," said Neff.Police say you should look out for any suspicious activity. You should also call them if you see anything out of the ordinary.
