- It may be the offseason for NHL players, but Joe Pavelski's been keeping busy.
On Friday, the Plover native and 2-time Olympian hosted his
6th annual charity golf tournament.
Close to 130 golfers joined Joe on the links at the Stevens Point Country Club. There were hole prizes around the course, as well as various games and giveaways.
The proceeds from the tournament go toward the Stevens Point Youth Hockey Association.
Joe's list of hockey accomplishments continues to grow. This week he was named as a second team NHL All-Star.
The former Badger enjoys reconnecting with everyone on the course and supporting youth hockey.
"It's exciting for me to come back and see all the faces," Pavelski explains. "There are so many. We travel so much at the end of the year - we're away from family and friends. Then in the summer, we're in Madison. You don't get to see as many people as you would like. It's special. Donations go to youth hockey (in Stevens Point). You see how important it is for the kids to play. There are so many good people involved, it's a great cause."
This year's tourney didn't disappoint. It continues to grow and gives people the chance to get to know Pavelski off the ice.
We'll have more on the event Wednesday, July 2 in our "Northwoods Spotlight."
