- Rhinelander High School's mock trial team placed in the top ten in the nation this year. The team finished eighth in the national competition in Madison this past weekend. The team prepares all year to compete at the regional and state level.Once they advanced to the national level they only had 5 weeks to memorize, strategize, and prepare. "The preparations for the national tournament is intense," Michael Bloom, Mock trial team legal advisor. "It involves getting together six days a week for the students after school every day, the team also gets together at least once every weekend usually on Sunday for a practice that goes 3 hours or so."46 teams competed in the national tournament. The team was surprised to make it so far. "Each step of the way has been a complete surprise for us," says Erin Tenderholt, Rhinelander High School junior. "When we made it into the finals at state we didn't see that coming and when we won state we were in disbelief.""Then going in we really wanted to make it a top 10 but we didn't necessarily think it was feasible, so when we got 8th in the nation we just couldn't believe it," says Tenderholt. Seattle Washington Preparatory School won the national tournament this year. Rhinelander won the national tournament back in 1989.
