- Most of us like to add syrup on our pancakes or waffles.
But have you ever wondered how it's made?
People in Phelps celebrated a tradition.
This was the third annual Phelps Maple Syrup Fest Saturday.
People traveled as far Milwaukee to come enjoy this event.
The chairperson of the festival says some local residents wanted to share the tradition of making syrup with the rest of the state.
"We go to local sugar bushes and we show people the art of making the maple syrup from a primitive manor up to a commercial state. So there's a variety of ways to do it. We go through the whole process of bottling it," said Maple Syrup Fest Chairperson, Renee Snook.
"We also give tree taping demonstrations. It's a nice hands on thing for the kids. We like to see them get involved."
They also had a maple syrup judging competition.
Some of our Newswatch 12 team participated in the judging.
The chairperson says they're working on some new ideas to make next year more unique.
