- Doctors tell people to go easy on the salt. Now, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is telling counties to do the same with their road salt. They want to make sure there's enough in case the state gets freezing rain.Counties have been asked to hold off on salting backbone routes such as state Highways 41, 151, 23 and 26.
Interstates will still be salted. Some municipalities have been running short on salt with the harsh winter. The state and small communities started using a sand-salt mixture in January. State officials are telling drivers to slow down because roads won't be as dry. Some county officials say salt prices are high. They plan to save supplies they have left for the dangerous weather that puts drivers at risk. (Copyright 2014 Associated Press - All Rights Reserved)
