Wolf hunt ends in Upper Michigan Submitted: 01/02/2014
LANSING, MICHIGAN - In Wisconsin, wolf hunters and trappers reached their quotas rapidly in most areas of the state.

The Upper Peninsula's wolf hunt just ended.

There, it was a much different story.

Hunters killed 23 wolves in the U.P during the state's first wolf hunt in four decades.

The department had a quota of 43 for the hunt.

Officials say that unusually cold weather probably kept hunt numbers down.

The wolf hunting season opened on Nov. 15. Before the season, the DNR estimated that Michigan had 658 wolves.
