Deer hunters may face some tough conditions Submitted: 11/22/2013
MADISON - Deer hunters will face some tough conditions when they hit the woods Saturday. The state's nine-day gun season gets a later start than usual. A big game ecologist with the DNR says that could mean reduced rutting activity. He says many areas are fairly wet, which could limit hunter access. And he says that thanks to the late spring and wet conditions about 40 percent of the state's corn crop is still standing, which will provide cover for deer.

Plus, he says, bow hunters haven't been reporting as many deer in northern areas, mostly because many animals didn't survive the unusually long winter. Whatever the case, we're wishing hunters the best of luck out there this weekend. And stay safe. (Copyright 2013 Associated Press - All Rights Reserved)
