Proposal to allow guns in schools gets sidetracked Submitted: 10/31/2013
MADISON - A plan to let some people carry guns in schools didn't make it far.

The proposal would have allowed off-duty, retired and out-of-state police officers to carry concealed weapons at Wisconsin schools.

But it won't be getting a vote in the state Assembly.

Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos's office said Wednesday the measure will not be voted on.

The proposal is sponsored by Republican Representative Joel Kleefisch, the chairman of the Assembly's Criminal Justice Committee.

Kleefisch wants to broaden his bill to allow anyone with a concealed weapon permit to carry guns in school buildings and on school grounds.

Kleefisch planned to put that idea to a committee vote Today, but says he didn't expect that amendment to be adopted.
