- Drunk drivers in Wisconsin may soon face harsher penalties.
A legislative committee has approved a package of bills that would impose tougher sanctions.
The Republican-authored measures would change third and fourth offenses from misdemeanors to felonies.
Mandatory sentences would be put in place for drunken drivers who injure or kill someone.
Also, the cars of drunk drivers could be seized under the proposals.
The Assembly Judiciary Committee approved six measures Thursday, clearing the way for a vote in the full Assembly.
Republican legislative leaders have been noncommittal about the bills.
