- Officials say this will be a great year for turkey hunters.
The season starts Saturday and runs through November 21st statewide.
The extended fall season is scheduled to run from December 2nd through December 31st in the southern two-thirds of the state.
State DNR officials say this past year's late winter and cold, wet spring likely put a damper on turkey production, noting reports of smaller, quail-sized turkey even into August.
However, they say 2012 was a good production year, which should translate to more adult gobblers for hunters.
