Local wins at Crandon World Championships Submitted: 08/31/2013
CRANDON - To be a professional driver, it takes skill and determination. To be a world champion, you have to up your game and take things to another level. That's what more than 200 drivers competing in Crandon this weekend are trying to accomplish. More than 20,000 fans over the three day event are watching the racing action. In the 1600 Buggy class, Rhinelander's Mark Steinhardt proved he's one to watch. He led wire to wire in today's race for the victory. It's his 13th World Championship. He also wrapped up the TORC series crown for the second straight year. Steiny didn't waste time grabbing the lead and staying in control. Tomorrow is the final day of competition, with more championships to be crowned. Racing is scheduled to begin at 9:45 am. Then $40,000 will be up for grabs in the 4th annual AMSOIL Cup Challenge at 5:15pm. Plenty of tickets are still available.
