- Going the distance can be overwhelming for a triathlete.
And sometimes, races take place too far away.
But one triathlon brings its first-ever annual race closer to home.
Holiday Acres will host the first W.I.L.D. Hodag Mini-Triathlon next Saturday in Rhinelander.
Athletes can either compete individually or team up for the 300-yard swim, 10k offroad bike, and 5k run.
Sometimes, organizing a first-year event can be a challenge.
But the triathlon looks like it will be a success.
"Things have been going pretty well so far. At two weeks out, we had about 30 registrants, and we thought for a first-time annual event, that was pretty good going into it. We knew most of the signups would take place in the last one to two weeks. We felt really good coming into this week and we're even more excited for the triathlon coming up a week from this Saturday," says organizer Tim Thorsen.
The triathlon will benefit W.I.L.D., a ministry that serves to spread the Christian message in Africa as well as here in the Northwoods.
