- Boys soccer teams held their first practice on Monday.
Northland Pines is coming off quite a year.
The Eagles finished second to Rhinelander in the Great Northern Conference last year. But they reached the D-3 section semis last season - losing to eventual state champ Appleton Xavier.
Pines has only 30 kids playing this year.
Many are from last year's playoff team.
Over the summer they faced some of the top teams in the state to get ready for the year.
They're confident they can make a run both in the G-N-C and the playoffs.
"Coming into the season, we're pretty optimistic," senior midfielder Christopher Paez explains. "Last year we lost alot of good guys - but we got really good in the off-season."
"We don't have any superstars either in the front or back," Northland Pines head coach Larry Favorite adds. "But we've got a good balance of kids that will need to work together."
The Eagles open the season August 22 at Antigo.
