Streamlined permits for cleaning up shorelines Submitted: 06/14/2013
MADISON - Lake property owners will have an easier time getting permission for lakefront clean-ups.

A new state permit allows clean up of accumulated zebra mussels, dead fish, algae and other deposits.

The DNR says waterfront property owners will have the same streamlined process that's been in place for the landowners on the Great Lakes.

People who apply for the new general permit will get a decision within 30 days.

The permit would be good for five years.

Before, landowners had to apply for an individual permit.

That requires a 30-day public comment period for each application.

The DNR says people will be able to handle nuisance accumulations quickly and easily, without harming the sensitive shoreline areas.
