Changes Could be Coming to Mining Rules Submitted: 05/13/2013
MADISON - Changes could be made to Wisconsin mining regulations. The state Natural Resources Board will vote next week on a scope statement to put into place Republican changes to Wisconsin's mining regulations. Governor Walker signed a bill in March relaxing mining requirements to help Gogebic Taconite open a giant iron mine just south of Lake Superior. State agencies apply laws through administrative rules.

Scope statements offer a broad overview of the rules' objectives and economic impact on small businesses. The mining scope statement notes the rules are designed to fulfill the new law and they shouldn't have any impact on small businesses. Walker approved the statement two days after the law was published. The vote will be on May 22. (Copyright 2013 Associated Press - All Rights Reserved)
