- Good news for air travelers. The Federal Aviation Administration says it has suspended all furloughs for air traffic controllers, and that air travel should return to normal by Sunday evening. The furloughs, caused by federal spending cuts, resulted in thousands of flight delays and hundreds of cancellations throughout the week. But congress passed legislation Friday giving the transportation department flexibility. It will be able to shift money around in its budget to stop the furloughs and put all controllers back to work.
