- Today, law enforcement prepared for the worst in Minocqua. It wasn't a fire or tornado drill- the Minocqua J1 school district practiced a "CODE RED" Lockdown in case of a Sandy Hook-type emergency.
"As times change and as incidents occur, there's always some looking back and planning on what would we do if this were to happen here," said Minocqua Police Chief Andrew Gee.
"It's just part of our culture of safety so it's not something where it is shocking or alarming to the kids, it's part of the way we do business now," said Minocqua J1 School District Principal, Rob Way.
For safety reasons the school and Emergency Managment Department could not share specifics of their plan. However, in a lockdown situation, no one would be allowed into or out of the school, and the children would be secured in their classrooms.
