State Rep., Lac du Flambeau Tribal President spar over grant money Submitted: 03/26/2013
MADISON - A Fox Valley Republican wants the state to think again about grant money to a Northwoods tribe.

Neenah State Rep. Dean Kaufert said he'd think about asking the state to not give $250,000 for a Lac du Flambeau cultural center.

He's upset the tribe and other Chippewa bands raised their planned walleye take for this year. Tribal president Tom Maulson thinks Kaufert is overreacting.

Maulson says the tribes are "very fair and open" and that they've always shared the resources.

Six tribal bands said last week they would spear nearly 60,000 fish. That would mean smaller bag limits for sports anglers.
