- Here's a sure sign of spring - Wisconsin's early trout season is just a little more than a week away. The season runs from 5 a.m. March 2nd until midnight on April 27nd. Participants will need a state fishing license and an inland trout stamp. DNR officials say the best time to fish will be in the afternoons, when water temperatures are a little warmer They say wooly bugger and scud flies are good choices for fishing deeper when there's no surface activity.
The DNR has posted maps of trout waters and public access points on their website.
