Oneida County Sheriff Hartman reacts to Juel deaths Submitted: 02/14/2013
RHINELANDER - We learned earlier this week two well-known people in Oneida County died tragically in a house fire.

Thursday, we heard some reaction from a person who worked closely with one of the victims.

Jail Administrator Kaye Juel and her husband Mark were killed in the fire at their home in Cassian early Tuesday morning.

The cause of that fire is still under investigation, but police think it was an accident.

Oneida County Sheriff Grady Hartman knew Kaye and spoke with her almost every day.

"Our entire office is deeply sadened by the sudden loss of Kaye and her husband Mark," Hartman said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family as well as her many friends in this community. At this point we're just going to honor Kaye's memory, Mark's memory and take it one day at a time."

Kaye had been a member of the Sheriff's Office since 1983.

Mark was an Iraq war veteran and served in the military for two decades.

A visitation for Mark and Kaye will be held Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home in Rhinelander.
