Winter Driving Safety Submitted: 01/30/2013
ACROSS THE NORTHWOODS - You can lose control of you're vehicle quickly in winter weather. But state troopers say that's preventable.

"Just drive defensively. Give yourself ample time to stop. Slow down. Be aware of your surroundings. Be aware of others around you," says
Kristin Kempen, Wisconsin State Trooper.

Staying safe starts even before you put your key in the ignition. It's the law that you clean off your car of snow. This means all windshields and windows. Another spot on your car that sometimes you forget to clear...

"Definitely cleaning off your brake lights so the drivers behind you can see you. So anytime you stop or put fuel in or have a rest break, definitely make sure the head lights and the tail lights are cleared off," says State Trooper

And remember to turn on those head lights. This will make you more visible to other cars.
