Discussions Continue on Ending Overnight Debates in State Assembly Submitted: 01/09/2013
MADISON - While most agree debating in the middle of the night is a bad idea, Republicans and Democratics in the state assembly have not yet agreed on how to keep it from happening.

Leaders from both parties met behind closed doors Tuesday to talk about proposals put forward by Republican Speaker Robin Vos.

He and Democratic Minority Leader Peter Barca emerged from the meeting saying they were still discussing ideas and would meet again today.

Barca says they are ``worlds apart'' on agreement over how to rein in debate that frequently goes all night.

But both Barca and Vos say they are committed to finding a solution.

Vos says he intends to have the Republican-controlled Assembly vote on the rule changes Thursday.
