- A 40-year-old woman from Illinois died Monday night after her snowmobile rolled down an embankment in St. Germain.
She was driving the snowmobile and did not have any passengers.
The woman missed a curve, went off the trail and down the embankment. The snowmobile rolled over her several times.
Vilas County Sheriff's Office and Wisconsin DNR report the victim likely died as a result of internal injuries caused by the weight of the snowmobile.
They believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Vilas County Sheriff's Deputies and St. Germain rescue responded and performed CPR after the call came in around 7:30 p.m.
The woman was pronounced dead at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff.
Vilas County Coroner Paul Tirpe is withholding the woman's name until her family is notified.
The is the first fatality for Vilas County in the 2012-13 snowmobile season.
