Three Lakes Set To Build Safer Routes To School Submitted: 12/12/2012
THREE LAKES - Three Lakes wants to make sure kids have a safe way to get to school.

Nearly $230,000 from the Wisconsin DOT will help build new sidewalks to connect Three Lakes Schools with other neighborhoods.

Right now, many kids are forced to walk in the roads to school.

Town Chairman Don Sidlowski says the town built some of its own sidewalks to help convince the DOT to award the grant.

"This now augments that," Sidlowski said.

"Now we're going to be able to go from campus, all the way to Winkler Road, up Forest, down to Superior Street. Quite a long distance in new sidewalk that we'll be able to build."

The town plans to keep the sidewalks clear during the winter too.

Another grant of nearly 28-thousand dollars will restore the Seven Mile Lake boat landing.

It comes from Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company.

The town plans to redo or restore all the boat landings over the next couple years.

They'll work with Seven Mile Lake association on this.

"They're going to offer in-kind services for things like landscaping around the boat landing and some repairs to the pier there," Sidlowski said.

"The town's going to provide personnel labor to help get the road smoothed off as you approach down the landing. The funds from WVIC will pay for the actual concrete replacement and the lake association itself is going to help with the pier and some of the other stuff."

They hope to get most of the construction done once the ground thaws.
