Elcho Fire Adds UTV Submitted: 12/05/2012
ELCHO - The vehicle looks like something out of the movie "Transformers".

But its use is practical - helping rescue people in the Northwoods more quickly than before.

This is the Elcho Fire Department's new UTV, complete with what are called "Camoplast" tracks.

That means it can handle just about any terrain.

"Anything that limits our ability to get into the woods, we can use this. It goes through a lot. It's impressive," says Elcho Fire Chief Bob Jensen.

The full package, between the UTV, tracks, and trailer, cost about $30,000.

The department couldn't have done it without community support.

"We got a very large donation from Bob Stimac from Superior Grinding in Antigo, and Rick Harrington from Hollywood Motorsports in Oshkosh. They did a demo derby for us last spring in Antigo," Jensen said.

That chipped in about $10,000, and more donations made up for the rest.
