- Paul Ryan spoke publicly Tuesday night, for the first time since coming up short in the presidential election.
The former vice-presidential candidate delivered the keynote speech at the Jack Kemp Foundation award dinner in Washington.
Ryan was last year's winner of the Kemp leadership award.
The Wisconsin congressman thanked the foundation for supporting him and Mitt Romney during their presidential campaign.
"We gave this race our all and I'm grateful for this nomination. I got to say, it's thrilling when your team trusts you with ball and it's humbling. You advance the ball as far as you can only to come up a little short."
Florida Senator Marco Rubio is this year's winner of the Kemp leadership award.
