Northland Pines Students Help Kids in Need Submitted: 12/04/2012
EAGLE RIVER - The holidays are all about helping each other out.

In Eagle River, there's no age limit on that.

Northland Pines National Honor Society is hosting its fifth annual toy drive this year.

Students put collection boxes out about three weeks ago.

They asked community members to donate new or gently used toys.

NHS member Ella Baltus said they got even more donations this year than in the past.

"It feels so great to see this many items donated," she said. "It's just such a heartwarming experience seeing all the kids and just knowing all these toys that once made me happy or once made someone else happy will do the same for another kid somewhere."

On Saturday, parents can come shop the toy drive at no charge.

No pre-registration is needed, and students set up a babysitting area so parents can shop alone.

They'll even gift wrap.

It's all meant to help out people in need, but it also helps students learn.

"When you realize that you're part of something that is going to give back, these young students, these high school students really understand how that plays an important role in our lives," said Kate Goodman, NHS adviser.

The toy drive goes from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. this Saturday, December 8th.
