Rhinelander School Board Votes on Referendum Specifics Submitted: 12/04/2012
RHINELANDER - Take a look at the School District of Rhinelander's 2013 budget, and you'll see a $3 million dollar hole.

Last month, families asked the district not to make any cuts in education to fix that hole.

So tonight, the board decided what it will have to ask in return: $4 million per year for the next three years.

The board voted unanimously for the three year option.

It had also considered a no-year-limit referendum, or a five-year referendum.

Board treasurer Mike Roberts said the three-year option seemed more popular among voters.

"The most important thing is that we pass this referendum," he said. "With the feedback that we were getting, it's important to pass it, and it sounded like a three-year referendum was more palatable to the people in the community that we talked to."

If the referendum fails, the district would have to cut charter schools, plus some activities and electives.

The district's budget information is linked below.

The vote is on February 19th.
