A Tradition 47 Years in the Making Submitted: 11/16/2012
TOMAHAWK - A venison feed for thousands - you can't get a better definition of the Northwoods.

Today's feed in Tomahawk was the 47th edition of the yearly event.

Hungry hunters know to stop in Tomahawk on the day before gun deer season.

The reviews of the venison burgers? Unanimously good.

The feed is free...as long as you throw a donation in the deer statue.

For most, there was more than one reason to come to Tomahawk's downtown.

"I guess eating the burgers is one of them, and then meeting the people, meeting my friends and all that," says Don Halverson.

The venison feed is a tradition whether you live in Tomahawk or not.

"It's become a family tradition. We have at least three generations. We see grandfathers with their grandsons and sons. It's a great thing. Started 47 years ago," says Tomahawk Mayor Bob Lee.

While it's a fun tradition, it's not without a little competition.

Each griller lays claim to having the best venison burger.
