- On Tuesday, we told you the Mosinee Area Action Club was collecting supplies and food to fill a semi truck headed east to help Hurricane Sandy survivors - and many of you responded.
Help came from all over the Northwoods and Central Wisconsin.
We collected donations here at the station, including 50 blankets from the Ascension Lutheran Church in Minocqua.
Rhinelander's city administrator drove it all down to Mosinee, where the action club collected more than $5,000 in cash donations, plus enough supplies and food to fill the semi truck.
Maple Ridge Farms of Mosinee donated one thousand boxes to pack it all up, and Roehl Transport of Marshfield donated the truck, driver and fuel to get everything there.
All of that happened within two weeks.
"This is a really good example of how people from all over the Central Wisconsin area are pulling together to help," said Bill Shirer of the
Mosinee Area Action Club. "We really appreciate it. It's been pretty remarkable, to tell you the truth."
Volunteers are boxing donations today and loading the truck tomorrow morning.
Shirer said he hopes to have the truck on the road by noon tomorrow.
