- Wabeno area veterans live on thanks to a retired teacher in the community.
Rita Blazewicz estimates she put about 500 hours into the project.
It honors veterans from Wabeno, Lakewood, Townsend, and nearby communities.
The project puts veterans faces on display.
"I would say I taught half of these students. I taught for 37 years, retired from Wabeno. I did a year at Crandon, also, so I know a lot from that area," Blazewicz says.
One veteran who isn't a former student is Wabeno librarian Kathy Stauffer.
She's a Navy vet.
Both her picture and that of her father smile out from the display.
"I think it's absolutely great. It's fabulous. It's wonderful. You just can't use enough adjectives to say how terrific this is," Stauffer says.
About 250 area vets are honored.
Tomorrow the display moves on to Lakewood, and then to Townsend later on.
