Lending a Hand to Local Veterans Submitted: 11/11/2012
RHINELANDER - From one veteran to another, a new tradition in Rhinelander honors our servicemen and women. Local laundromat owner, Mark Juel, spent two decades in the military, including a tour in Iraq.

"I'm a veteran myself, I was in for over 20 years and for people that helped protect my back, I'm doing what I can for them," he said.

Today veterans, and spouses of soldiers in the service, could come and use the Northwoods Laundromat for free.

Juel says it's the least he can do.

"It's something that I'm proud of, I'm proud of being a veteran... The veterans are the ones that protect our freedom, and I appreciate them."

Juel says veterans don't expect much on this day of thanks, but the smallest gesture can mean a lot.

"I just think a simple 'thank you' is enough. Some people, they've given their total bodies and souls, some have lost limbs, they lost their lives... They just like to hear thank you. That's all."
